I've been a customer with them for 3 years, yet I have to say, I wouldn't exactly call them "better" banking. The only reason why I gave 2 stars is because 1) so far they've always beaten any auto loan I've got to reduce my payments and 2) the no charge on my checking account like big banks do.

I'm going to edit after trying to replace my card. First off, it is a major hassle in replacing a card. When customer service tells you to go into a branch to get a new card, only to be told at the branch they stopped doing that a year ago. So first thing, SDCCU needs to get their online support up to speed on new policies. Second, replacing someone's card from a card closure is NOT our fault, so why are we being charged a card replacement fee for something that we prevented? Lastly, you want to charge me $35 to expedite my card replacement via mail when it can take up to 7 days to get? In the day and age post Covid where many places are cashless, you expect me to have to be extorted to receive my new card faster? I'm sorry, you lost a customer, as of today I'm going to go back to bigger banks

Loved this credit union until recently. I’ve had so many issues with debit cards being sent to the wrong address, debit cards being blocked without me doing it, the atms taking my money and card. Having to dispute it. Now, they have changed my account number I have had for many years to which I have no access to because I am blocked and locked from my account. So I am missing payments on bills, not having access to a debit card, and going through the hassle of 5 people telling me different things to resolve this. Ive read and heard that this is happening to too many customers too often.

UPDATE!

Still haven’t received my debit card after 2 weeks! Called multiple times, said everything looks correct. Called again and someone tells me that the address was entered wrong! After I called multiple times and verified my address. They have to resend it! Said I have to wait and get a new one sent. This literally happened to me not long ago and it happened once again. 4 months out of a whole year I haven’t had my debit card for my account with SDCCU because of their errors. And I’m getting punished for it and missing bills I need to pay with my card. Also my credit card expired in October, never got a new one issued for that either. DO NOT USE THIS BANK.

I have never had an issue with San Diego County credit union until recently. I unfortunately had to block my card which, with this bank means you need an entirely new card. I received the new card as well as the pin. For some reason, I was unable to use the card with the pin, which baffled me because it was the one they had to set for me. I’m not sure why they consider themselves better than big bank banking, you can’t even change your pin online or block your card and unblock it when you need to. I called Customer Service they were unable to help and told me I needed to go inside a branch to reset my pin. Went inside the branch today and they told me they can no longer do it as well as no longer print me a new card on the spot so I am able to set my own pin. What is really frustrating is that I now have to wait for a pin they assign to me to come in the mail. I’m not understanding how this bank is better for their customers. I have informed my husband that we will just open a joint account with USAA as are able to do just about anything online, especially block and unblock your card as well as change your pin, without having to get another one in the mail.

I have been a customer for over 30 years.. SDCCU has Horrible services. I have twoVISA credit cards I can't use They have put a stop on, not because of my mistake because of their mistake. How can you issue me a credit card with the wrong name on it? And then cancel the service to send me a new one. Here it is a weekend, we have a storm coming in and I am unable to use my credit card at the grocery store, at the gas station, or for any online services. I will be pulling my money out of SDCCU

I’ve had an auto loan for like 16 months, and it was set up on auto pay. Just because they received a returned letter, they canceled auto pay and I didn’t know about it until it was too late. I spend 90% of the time on the road, I had no idea what they did. Payment history was perfect for a year until they felt like canceling auto pay! Now late payment, and extra interest was deducted from my payment. Great job people! SMH Makes no sense! The worst!

I am writing this review with a heavy heart and much frustration, as my experience with San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) has recently taken a disappointing turn. Until recently, I held SDCCU in high esteem due to its commendable customer service and robust banking procedures, which inspired me to entrust both my personal and business accounts to their care.

However, my wife and I recently encountered a frustrating issue which has left us questioning the bank's commitment to its clients. Upon receipt of a fraud alert, my wife's card was locked - an action we understand is necessary to protect our finances. With past experiences, we appreciated SDCCU's prompt service, including immediate issuance of a new card at our local branch.

To our dismay, this time the process was not as smooth and accommodating as we expected. Instead of offering immediate assistance, we were told to wait two weeks for a new card, a delay we find unacceptable especially considering the egregious charge of over $200 to expedite the process.

Complicating matters further, once the new card arrived, it was rendered useless until a new PIN, which we are no longer able to choose, arrived separately a few days later. When the PIN didn't arrive as expected, our attempt to resolve the matter resulted in a second card being issued, resetting the whole process and causing an extended delay. This left my wife without access to her funds for over a month.

While the bank suggested using my card as a temporary solution, this workaround is inconvenient and creates tensions, as both of us rely on our individual cards for daily transactions. The net effect is a significant erosion of our trust and satisfaction in SDCCU.

In conclusion, it is regrettable that the standards of service we once appreciated at SDCCU seem to have declined, aligning more with the impersonal, bureaucratic methods often attributed to larger banking institutions. We truly hope this review is taken as constructive criticism, and prompts SDCCU to reassess and improve its customer service and banking procedures.

I've been a customer for more than 20 years and during this time I have not had much to complain about. But these last 3-4 weeks _everything_ has gone wrong!

I'm abroad at the moment and have to rely on others being able to deposit money into my account and I being able to pay others. SDCCU cannot handle that. They tell me to use Zelle or Venmo or some other app. They charge $5 per month for something called Bill Payer Plus so I can send payments to people. What they do is to use a third party who sends checks via regular US Postal Service, which get lost in the mail. Not their fault, they say, implying that it's mine. They don't keep any tracking number. They don't assume any responsibility. When someone tries to deposit money into my account they return the money. Again, not their fault, they say. The sender or sender's bank must have made the mistake.

Today I spoke with a customer rep, who went by the name Doreen, and it was a terrible experience. Don't know where to start...

It's a relief to know that I'm not the only one whose credit score was damaged due to their practices (because I don't feel so alone, but terrible to know that this is common). I had chosen this bank to stay loyal to local credit unions. In return, I got terrible communication: no communication of an issue going on with my account, and they ended up charging off my account on a $30 deficit with no notice (even though I could've easily paid this off). It has taken years for me to rebuild my credit score due to their practices. Also, I was never able to get a hold of a live person to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, when this happened, I had moved out of San Diego, and I couldn't get anyone over the phone to talk over this issue. Thanks SDCCU for your practices. Your lack of communication has affected my buying power over the past few years. Truly a bank NOT for the people.
