I live in the foothills outside Denver. After a season of high wildfire activity, my homeowner's insurance company told me they would not renew. I tried to get insurance through 5 major home insurance companies and no one was taking new customers in the area due to fire risk. Allstate will let you sign up online and will issue a policy, but then the underwriter's will quickly reject you afterwards if you are in the foothills due to slope, wooded areas adjacent to your property, etc. When I ran into that issue with Allstate, I decided to ask for a local agent to walk me through it and selected Haylee Jeon. She and her staff were fantastic! Haylee Jeon and her staff explained to me why I could not satisfy the underwriters for the traditional Allstate homeowner's insurance, but that Allstate has a 100% subsidiary named North Light that insures homes in high risk areas. Yes it costs a bit more and has a deductible, but there were no other options for me and my mortgage company requires insurance--and frankly I wanted it too, a house is a rather large investment. Haylee's staff (shout out to you Cayla!) quickly stepped in and help me get a North Light policy in place before my other home insurance lapsed. Their quick, friendly, professional assistance was greatly appreciated. It was a pretty stressful situation and I was grateful for their assistance and clear explanations.
