We've been with AmFam since 1971 (not all years with the Gundy Agency, just 24 years with them). During this time we've had to file 2 claims. One with hail damage, which was promptly taken care of, and one for a plumbing issue which is where we encountered much resistance. First, we found several contractors were unwilling to work with AmFam. This is not the fault of the local AmFam office but the AmFam corporation and it's ability to work with contractors. Second, the AmFam field claim reps are not helpful at all. Third, after encountering these issues I reached out to our local office (Gundy) for assistance in helping us with our issues and somehow communications broke down between them and the claims office and we got nowhere, again. I understand that claims and our insurance agent hold separate licenses but really thought they could work together in helping us resolve issues. It got to a point where we had to take care of our damages ourselves without the help of our homeowners insurance.

Because we were advised by an attorney, ALL communications with the local office and the claims division were recorded so I do have records to back up the above claims.

I did give 2 stars because the receptionist at our local office was helpful in getting me some phone numbers that helped us a little, otherwise a 1 star would have been generous.

In the end we felt the best we could do was to take our business elsewhere. A real shame after paying premiums for 24 years. Hit 'em where it hurts.
