Most people select this company because at first they offer you a competitive price for insurance and workers comp. Then the audits come. Audits are understandable and every carrier does this. However, they misclassify workers and you have to send the same information 100 times because they are so disorganized. They requested profit and loss statements from me, which is none of their business, and then they throw out a huge number and swindle the amount downward after you continue to catch all their mistakes. They also audit you twice a year. They are audit happy when it comes to trying to find ways to squeeze every dollar out of you. I switched years ago and I am way better off with my new carrier. They sent me a refund payment a few years ago for overpayment and then last year they tried hiring a debt collection company out of Chicago to say I owed them money from four years ago. Completely disorganized. If you select this company I guarantee you will have problems. Their online reviews show that

Chesapeake Insurance has a knowledgable, helpful staff that are happy to explain things to you. Call them and ask them to explain your policy before something happens. Often we only call when there is a problem and we think they should have covered the issue! The real issue is that we don't know what our policies actually cover, we just assume and when it doesn't go our way we get mad and take it out on the insurance company. Be proactive and call your companies audit team so you can be educated on what your policy actually covers. The agents that sell the insurance have a good understanding of policy but not nearly as much as your companies audit team. I would like to thank Mrs. Newlon for educating me in a way that I could understand it. GET EDUCATED

BEWARE!!!!! If I could give ZERO stars I would. I don't typically leave reviews but I must for this company. I had workmans comp. with them since opening my business 4 yrs , never had a claim ! I would receive a Yearly Audit and they would always send me a bill for more money , Thousands ! and threaten to drop me , couldn't understand why and found out they were mischaracterizing my employees. One office employee was put at high risk. I work hard and don't have time to review and fix Audit mistakes for them. I was finally tired of fighting with them over there mistakes and dropped them !!!!

I’m not surprised to see a 2.8 rating. This is my first time ever in life making a review. I don’t even like to put out bad energy but this is warranted. I got injured at work and unfortunately my employer was insured by Chesapeake. I’ve been on temporary disability going on nine months and my check has been late or hasn’t arrived in the mail at least six times. Chesapeake is quick to blame the post office when this issue could be nonexistent if I was able to get direct deposit. Their unreasonable rule is if your temporarily disabled you don’t have the benefit of using direct deposit. You have to be permanently disabled to receive direct deposit🤦🏾‍♂️🤔.It doesn’t cost the owner more money to take my account & routing number. It may be more work to plug/type more numbers in on their end so that just makes me believe there just being lazy. Then they make you wait 15 days to cancel the check and reissue another if it never arrives. Then they have the audacity to ask me to ask the doctor who I have my follow up appointment with if he can schedule my appointment sooner than what was scheduled so I can hopefully get cleared to go back to work faster.🤦🏾‍♂️ Imagine that, they want me to convenience them but won’t convenience me. Whoever the decision maker is seems to be very unreasonable or morally lacking. BAD BUSINESS!!! And the employers/owners probably don’t care. They just need cheap insurance to run their business.Once you get injured you have to deal with them. The business owners don’t. I get denied when I ask to speak to the owner. If the owner glimpses at this review I would really like to get clarity about some of your unreasonable rules.

At first we were very satisfied with Chesapeake Employers Insurance company as our workman’s comp provider. However when they performed their audit, they included the payroll and bonuses we as owners pay ourselves. We sent a detailed list of what employees were to be covered when we first signed up for the insurance, none of it noting the owners names. Our agent knew we as owners did not want to pay to have ourselves insured - why would we pay more and make an workman’s comp claim against our own company It doesn’t make sense. Even after sending all the documentation to them showing that our names were not listed as to be insured, they didn’t just accept the mistake on their agents behalf, they have retained an attorney for collections. It was $3,300. That’s a lot of money for a small business like ours. Now, they’ve probably spent that in attorney fees already. They say their for their customers, but we no longer believe that. We would have been life long customers of this company and they would have made tens of thousands of dollars off us over the next couple of years. I want to know who they have hired that are making these decisions to legally pursue their customers when it was a mistake on their end. Now we will be filing a law suit against them, costing them way more money than the $3,000 they’re trying to pursue. Bad business decisions from someone at the top. Really mind blowing if you ask me. And we’ve already found other companies that were cheaper than them to insure us anyway. Look somewhere else for your insurance needs.

I don’t like to share bad news but I’m upset. I got injured a year ago at work. I’ve been through a year of pain. I was told I needed surgery on my wrist. It has been a wild goose chase trying to get in contact with my adjuster. I’ve left e-mail, phone calls etc with no luck. It upsets me because I’ve done my part so why can’t they do there’s? I’m going into another year without a word of them.
