Don't go here!

For context, my taxes are usually pretty straightforward (W2, one property, no dependants) and we were quoted/paid $200 last year. It's a little steep but I said fine. This year, I was quoted $200 + (5-10)% increase in price. The only change this year was a California EV rebate.

When I went to pick up my return, they suddenly told me that because the EV was so much more work, I was being charged $500. Can you believe it? A 150% increase in price without any warning whatsoever or option to change my mind with the dramatic price change. No way right? So I asked if there's any compromise in the price because that is a huge, huge difference from what I was quoted. Nope, no wiggle room at all. So I said okay, I'd rather not complete the services with them then and I do feel bad because they did do work.

After that, they gave me the foulest, rudest attitude and basically tossed my papers back at me. The accountant Karin even said "Go find someone else to do it then!" It made me feel like she was looking down on me and assumed I'd never be able to figure it out.

I ended up getting my daughter to do my taxes for me. Turns out doing the EV portion took about five extra minutes from someone with no tax return background, and I got a bit more refund back than the accountant had told me.

Horrible firm! They don’t comminicate with you and will basically ghost you. We worked with Karin last year. We sent our tax forms in Feb 2022. We followed up multiple times and radio silence. They basically got back to us on the last day to file our taxes AND they made a mistake! My husband had to correct them and basically do their job. We had long email thread of trying to follow up and spelling out the corrections. Please hire competent and professional accountants.
