My grandson has a kid saver account and had an ATM card to deposit money. Suddenly the card would not work and I was told that they did not know why. They would reissue the card, we received the card in January with no explanation other than we would be receiving a separate pin. We thought the card was active and we just needed to use the new pin at the ATM. We went to the ATM over this past weekend and the machine said the card was not active. We went into the branch today and was told to call a number, the number stated you needed an expiration date on the card which kid saver cards does not have, we spoke to an agent in card services who said he couldn't help us we needed to call the call center. After 30 min on the phone. She initially couldn't even find the card, then proceeded to activate only to come back on the line and say the card is to old and they will need to issue another one. Oh by the way, if we wanted it expedited, that would cost $25 and after checking she couldn't waive the fee even for all of the inconvenience because she checked and instructions were sent on how to activate the card in January. In essence calling us a lier!!! This is terrible and its safe to say you may have lost a future customer in my grand son and certainly will not be getting the business of my other 7 grandchildren which are all under age and that I am teaching financial literacy to. I have always been a credit union champion however, this is not the SAFE that I had a positive exp. with years ago. This experience reminded me why I closed all of my accounts with you and will not be doing any future business.

I've been a SAFE member for over twenty (20) years. They used to be good, but they have been slacking the last couple years. The last straw for me was going to Reno for my anniversary. I went to use my ATM card (debit transaction using my pin number) at a large casino. ATM machine says "unable to make transaction, contact your banking institution". It's 8pm on a Thursday night.

The "Call 24" number is no longer what it used to be, it defaults to a corporate phone tree. Entered my bank account number and couldn't remember my Call 24 pin (its different than regular pin). It says to hit the pound key if you don't know your pin. Surprise! You've been taken back to the original menu of the phone tree.

I got online and access my "Card on/off" feature. It says "no cards to be displayed". Are freaking kidding me? What happened to the old phone calls or text messages asking for approval when fraud was sensed?

Luckily I have other credit cards so I'm not stranded. I played this game with SAFE in 2005ish. I was camping in the Burney Falls area and they canceled my card when I used it at a hole in the wall general store. Had to next day mail a card to me in the middle of nowhere. I should have switched then.

I have had a few car loans through Patelco. I have had nothing but a positive experience with them. Looks like I am switching my checking and savings over.

* updated review, I take my 5 star back. I've been banking with Safe for several years at this point and have financed many cars with this bank and the last 2 loans I took out they gave me a hard time but ultimately approved the loans well this year I paid off 2 of my auto loans and now I'm applying for a new auto loan and they are declining me due to revolving debt. Mind you I've never been late on any of my credit with any of my creditors including this bank but they dont care about any of that, wasting your time building a relationship with this bank because they play games . I now know why so many people give them such a low rating* I don't know why these guys have a 1.9 star rating because I always get a 5 star treatment

I tried to keep this account after moving from California, but it is time to cancel out this account and find something local. I wanted to support a Credit Union and not a bank. However, the wait times for any type of assistance is unacceptable and an estimated wait time isn't even given as you sit and wait endlessly for the most simple assistance. I also have 0 credit unions in the greater Orlando, Florida area to do in network business in. The only branch in the network did not survive post Covid... it has closed. Unfortunately, Safe does not realize this, so they still send you there as if it is open wasting over an hour of a commute thinking you'll have a branch to assist. Hold times are terrible, additional security measures are over the top keeping you from doing basic business and paying basic bills, small network, and low limits for bill paying and money transfers. I literally had my entire account put on hold because I tried to use their money transfer system to pay my attorney.

Complete fraud. Never opened an account with them but continue to get mail saying I do and that I have an account with them that they will not close. My identity/information has never been stolen and I’ve never been a member and will never be a member at this credit union. Calls go unanswered poor customer service like all reviews state.

Went to the branch at 7601 Sunrise Blvd. Wanted to open a checking account but was not helped or greeted after standing at the front counter for 10-15 minutes. One female banker looked up at me several times, but continued talking to the manager. Very unfriendly and low energy staff working. I walked up to the branch manager Derek Gore to let him know I will be taking my business to El dorado or Wells Fargo instead. Unbelievable, Safe really needs to step it up.

if your traveling, the aggravation of hourly blocking of your debit card is staggaring. Each time you stop for gas...the card is "blocked" yet again..., checking into a hotel? Blocked again... time invested in calling the "fraud prevention unit is huge !

Car loans...they call ins Service used to be great.... , 5 years down the road.. they are " no longer service oriented". Long wait times on phone and in branches.. If you get a car loan as i did...they call every month to to "sure" you are planning to pay... even when you have never not paid or been late.... irritating !

I applied for an equity loan increase. I already had an equity loan. I have not used . When I got around to doing the work and the estimate was higher than originally expected. I asked for an increase. Thirty days before work started. Finally the day work started Safe Credit Union says I can't increase my loan, after 30 days of loan applications and phone calls and emails Their reason, because my kitchen is under construction.
I have been a customer for over 25 years and have good credit. And now I can't finish the remodel the way I wanted. Looking for another bank. There is no loyalty anymore. Just look for the better deal.
