I hope this message reaches the CEO or owner of the property, as they need to be aware of the unprofessionalism I experienced during my interview today. I am extremely disappointed with how I was treated by a man named Art, and I regret not walking out sooner.

I made the mistake of misreading the interview email regarding the dress code, arriving in a nice blouse, clean shoes, and jeans instead of business attire. I take full responsibility for that. However, before Art even properly introduced himself, he immediately criticized my appearance, stating that the email didn’t mention jeans or tennis shoes, i mentioned that the email did state business casual and i was under the impression that a nice blouse, nice shoes and nice jeans were considered business casual. I was wrong, art made a point to make that very apparent stating that even business casual is not jeans and shoes and that i needed to wear dress shoes. He also stated that he wouldn’t normally give someone in my outfit the time of day. This was said before the interview officially began, setting a very negative tone right from the start.

I should have left at that point, but I stayed because I was genuinely interested in the role. During the interview, Art asked me, “What are the demographics?” regarding the residents at my previous property. When I asked for clarification, he repeated the question without providing any context. When I asked again, he rudely sighed and responded with, “Were the residents Section 8?” I found this line of questioning vague and irrelevant to the position I was applying for. He also asked me a question about closing out a sale and when i didn’t answer the way he wanted he stated “i don’t think i madee myself clear” and reiterated the same exact question worded the same exact way. Throughout the entirety of the interview, Art was impatient, extremely unclear, and very unprofessional. This way of interviewing set me up for failure.

As the recruiter, Art is the face of the company during the hiring process. Just as I was being evaluated for the role, I was also determining if this company would be a good fit for me. Unfortunately, due to his behavior, I’ve lost all interest in pursuing this opportunity. I couldn’t afford new slacks or shoes at the time, and I’m incredibly disappointed that my appearance was used against me so harshly. Given my experience, I truly believe HSL would have been a great fit for me, but after this encounter, I will no longer consider any role within the company.

I sincerely hope that Art is removed from the interview process moving forward, as I fear his conduct could be truly detrimental to HSL’s reputation and ability to attract talented individuals.

Below is a picture of my outfit worn for the interview.

Been living in one of HSL's "Luxury" apartments for 2.5 years. Windows leak when it rains. I've complained over and over again and although they have sent people to "look at it" (and perhaps try to fix it), it continues to be a problem. Worse yet, the water is in the walls and I'm sure black mold will, if not already, be growing in there. Head of maintenance at the complex says, "he's seen worse" (so I should be glad it's not worse?)...and basically, they're not going to do anything about it. I'm done. I'm moving.

Part two: I found an apartment NOT managed by HSL, but HSL wants 1.5x the rent to break the lease. Is that even legal? This company is a nightmare.

The company messed with me twice-
The first time was the wrong apt number on my cost sheet, which ended up increasing my rent by $178 per month (the mistake essentially canceled my quote in their computer and they wouldnt honor the original quote anymore).
The second time was the wrong parking spot number on my lease- they assigned it to another resident as well- management deferred to the other resident and assigned me a much worse parking spot.
The company switched management while I was there- it's a company problem, not an on-site problem.

This agency is trash. We applied to an apartment in Tucson, AZ and were denied due to an eviction 2 years ago, even though we had the money and the complex refused to take it. Any properties thru this agency is a waste of time if you are in need of help. They would rather see a family homeless than help.

Final Review: After two years living at Sycamore Creek and renting from HSL, I am finally free. This management company could not care about their tenants and we literally pay them to do so. Save yourself and rent from literally ANYONE else.
In response: I sent corporate an email on May 9th and have not heard back.
Do not rent from HSL. The property managers are rude and callous. The maintenance team have no respect for the property or the tenants. Corporate doesn’t respond.

I am really disappointed with the service I have received from HSL. I will never again rent an apartment with them. I have lived in both Cantera and Estancia apartments in Tucson. HSL manages both properties. Both rental experiences were horrible. The staff at Cantera were really friendly, but the apartments were infested with cockroaches. We had pest control come nearly every week to spray for bugs, but it didn't help.

After 8 months of living at Cantera, we ended up transferring to Estancia. Our experience with Estancia Apartments has been even worse than the experience we had at Cantera. We have been at Estancia for over a year now, and I am ready to leave as soon as possible. Our first year living at Estancia was okay, but we had new neighbors move in below us in August of 2023. Once they moved in, we had lots of issues with them making noise at all hours of the night. My fiance and I tried getting help from the leasing office several times, but they really didn't care and seemed to brush us off every time we complained. They also never returned my phone calls when I left voicemails about the noise issues.

We finally ended up transferring to another unit in Estancia in March of 2024 because of the noise issues. The transfer process with Estancia was bumpy to say the least. Originally, we were supposed to transfer to our new unit on February 29th. The week before we were set to move, we received a call from the leasing office letting us know that the new apartment would not be ready to move in until March 8th. They told us that they needed to do more extensive repairs than they initially anticipated and that caused the delay. Then, the day before we were set to move in, we received another phone call from the leasing office letting us know that we wouldn't be able to get the keys until 12 pm on our move- in date. Their maintenance team installed new title, and they told us it would not dry until the next afternoon. We were really upset because we had booked movers to come at the 8 in the morning on March 8th. We ended up having to reschedule our movers for the following day. It was really stressful because we knew we were only allowed 72 hours to do our transfer after we picked up our new keys.

The latest issue we have had with HSL and Estancia is getting our new rental/lease prices for the upcoming months. We signed a 2-month lease after we moved into the new unit with Estancia. We just received a notice yesterday that our rent would be going up from just over $1100 a month to $1647 for our 1 bedroom apartment if we choose to do a month- to- month lease. We are fine with the rent going up because we plan to move out soon. However, we were frustrated that they did not give us notice about rent increasing sooner. Arizona law states that a landlord should provide a 30-day notice if rent will be increased. HSL is definitely breaking the law by not giving this notice to us sooner. The letter they provided us even said these rates were supposed to be given to us on March 8th. Why were we not given these rates on that date? I attempted emailing and calling HSL's corporate office, and they have yet to return my calls or emails. I guess they are no better at communicating than their staff at Estancia Apartments.

I attached a photo of the notice we received from the leasing office on 4/23 about our new lease terms for reference.
