Came to ask a few simple questions about their services. First woman quoted me $250 flat rate plus an additional $20 per W-2 and stated the cost would likely increase with my 1099 form but said she could not state a definite price because they would have to see once everything was in their system, which is understandable and usually the case with these services. However, the other woman (with the glasses) came to talk to me and started going on about how I need to have all my forms in order for them to perform the service, which I'm not sure why she assumed I came unprepared. But I assured her I had all my forms. Then she went on to tell me it would be "at least 300" for everything but wouldn't be able to tell me until they see everything in their system and went on about how the "storage space my forms take up in their drive" factors into their price and I would likely pay more. She again told me "but you need to have all your forms" which I once again reminded her, I had all my forms. She was rude and spoke down to me as if I was unprepared, when all I wanted was an estimate. When I confronted the first woman about the conflicting estimate prices, she switched up her story saying "I didn't finish, all of the information takes up space so it would probably add up to more than 300."
Needless to say, I walked out and received much lower quotes from 3 different tax preparation services whose estimates were in the lower $200 range.
Seems sketch to not have your story straight when quoting your services. Also, not talking down to a young woman as if she's an unprepared child would help to not drive away customers.
