My previous tax preparer passed away the prior fall. In late February 2024 I gave Genoa Accounting Services all of my 2023 tax information on time including 2yr prior filings for my family and our small side biz. They lied to me about filing an extension, had lost my information at one point, didn't get my taxes done until October. Then I got letters from the IRS in January telling me my taxes were delinquent, only to find out the preparers never got them submitted. I had to call IRS myself to find out why (they fudged a SS# on a form), which seemed like a simple fix and re-submit, but I had to call and call and call and call for weeks with no response and email with no response and voicemail always full. They never attempted to resubmit (I verified with IRS). Until I had to completely do my own taxes and e-file them MYSELF before the next IRS deadline (even though I paid someone to do it).

And now I sit here and wait for the IRS to tell me what kind of penalties and interest I may owe. It's a nightmare. I'm about as nice and patient of a person you'd ever find, too.

They took on too much work. Their communication was terrible. Their willingness to correct their own error was non-existent. I never got a refund for their lack of services.

We provided our 2023 tax documents in February of 2023. They said they'd be done by March. We reached out at the end of March and got excuses after excuse. Finally got a reply in July that they were done. Paid and signed. Gary said we owed 16k (we've never owed even close to that) but that we'd get refunds from 2 states. I never got a bill or refund or any correspondence. Irs.gov doesn't show anything for 2023. I've reached out and have been completely ignored.
